Mediterranean Letters was an evocative evening where classical music and poetry intertwined, capturing the spirit of the Mediterranean — its culture, traditions, and heritage.
The music, ranging from Romantic to contemporary, was interwoven with poetry by Mediterranean voices such as Eugenio Montale, Antonio Machado, Paul Verlaine, John Portelli, and Federico García Lorca, performed by Maltese actor Natalie Naudi as well as the representative of the Embassy of Spain in Malta, one of the sponsor’s of the evening — Pedro Santamaría.

This unique concert highlighted the dialogue between word and sound, exploring how both draw inspiration from the Mediterranean’s landscapes, rhythms, and atmosphere, all set in the Green Room of Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta.
Violinist Justyna Zanko and pianist Julia Miller presented a vibrant program featuring works by composers inspired by the region, including Sarasate, Scalero, Camilleri, Theodorakis, and others. The full program is available below.

The night concluded with a wine reception courtesy of one of the event’s sponsors — Marsovin Wines — where artists and audience members mingled and discussed the evening in a friendly and intimate atmosphere.

During the reception, guests happily exchanged their impressions of the night, offering comments like:
***An excellent varied evening***
***The poetry reading was a lovely touch and the poems were well read***
*** I have really enjoyed the evening primarily for the fact that you have presented pieces that are among lesser known ones, as well as premieres. There was a beautiful blending of folk songs and more romantic works. Beautiful contemporary pieces which we don’t get the opportunity to listen to often.***
***It was a lovely evening overall. We appreciated your presentation in the beginning which was a brief introduction about your performances.***
*** the pieces were inspiring, could feel a taste from different cultures as well some sentimentally expressive***
***Thank you for such an enjoyable evening!***
***It was spiritually very nourishing and I look forward to more.***

Thank you for the the overall warm response to the concert and looking forward to more evenings with music and poetry.

Mediterranean Letters
Amazing performance by violinist Ms. Justyna Ewa Zańko accompanied by pianist Ms. Julia Miller. The pieces were sentimental and so very expressive.
It was such a lovely evening. Thank you for inspiring me to pursue my studies in violin music. I will cherish this moment for ever.
