The recital presented a programme that intertwined music by Amy Beach and Valborg Aulin with works by Franz Schubert/Liszt and Fryderyk Chopin. At the heart of the concert were the compositions of Beach and Aulin, whose piano writing and performance challenges formed the focus of Julia’s doctoral research. Their works were performed in Malta for the very first time, marking the local premieres of both composers. Heard alongside Schubert/Liszt and Chopin, the programme highlighted the dialogue between generations, showing how Beach and Aulin drew inspiration from earlier traditions while forging their own distinct musical voices.
