Polish-born pianist Julia Miller is an internationally active performer, educator, and artistic collaborator whose work is guided by a passion for music and a curiosity for exploring a wide range of repertoire and artistic collaborations. Trained at the Music Academy of Łódź, where she studied piano performance and chamber music under distinguished professors including Anna Wesołowska-Firlej, Bogusław Pikała, and Cezary Sanecki, she developed an artistic voice that combines expressive sensitivity with intellectual curiosity.

A prizewinner and finalist in several competitions, Julia began her professional journey in Poland, performing extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in some of the country’s most prestigious concert venues. Her passion for collaboration and cultural exchange soon led her beyond national borders, establishing an international career that has continued to flourish across Europe.

Since relocating to Malta in 2012, Julia has become a prominent figure in the island’s musical landscape. Equally at home on the concert platform and in the collaborative setting, she has worked with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, KorMalta, the Manoel Theatre Youth Opera, and numerous distinguished singers and instrumentalists. Her performances have been featured at festivals and cultural events including the Malta Baroque Festival, Malta International Spring Festival, Gaulitana Festival, TEDx Lublin, and Festival Musicale delle Nazioni in Rome.

A central aspect of Julia’s work is her interest in exploring the historical, cultural, and artistic contexts of the music she performs.This vision inspired the creation of her recital series, Julia Miller Plays, launched in 2019, through which she explores a broad repertoire with a particular affinity for the rich expressive world of Romantic piano literature. Her programmes often place well-loved masterpieces alongside lesser-known works, inviting audiences to discover new musical perspectives.

A keen collaborator, Julia has initiated and curated several interdisciplinary and international projects., Julia has initiated and curated several interdisciplinary and international projects. In 2022, she conceived Valletta–Varsavja–Vjenna, a project supported by Arts Council Malta and the Embassy of Poland in Valletta, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D minor with the Apertus Quartet and presenting a newly commissioned piano quintet by Maltese composer Karl Fiorini. In 2025, she produced Mediterranean Letters, an innovative concert experience that wove together violin and piano music from Mediterranean countries with live poetry recitations, creating a conversation between sound, language, and place.

As a chamber musician, Julia maintains an active international presence, particularly in violin-and-piano repertoire and piano-duo collaborations. Her performances in Malta, Poland, and Italy reflect a commitment to artistic partnership and shared musical discovery. In 2024, she made her concerto debut with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Michael Laus, performing Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor.

Alongside her performing career, Julia is a dedicated educator who serves on the faculties of the Malta School of Music and the Malta Visual and Performing Arts School. As a teacher, Julia is committed to helping students develop both technical proficiency and a deeper engagement with music.

In 2026, Julia completed her Doctor of Music degree at the University of Malta under the supervision of Professor Michael Laus and Dr Max Erwin. Her research focused on women composers from late nineteenth-century Sweden and the United States, reflecting her ongoing commitment to uncovering overlooked voices and enriching the musical canon through scholarship and performance.
